Description

Quadrupole mass spectrometers have a variety of applications such as residual gas analysis. This example shows how to set up a 3D simulation of a quadrupole with bore radius 2.5 mm and length 100.0 mm. The theory of operation is reviewed in this tutorial: Modeling quadrupole mass analyzers. Numerical calculations like this one can deal with several real-world issues that are not addressed in the analytic theory, such as acceptance of incident ions with spreads in position, direction and energy. The example illustrates adjustment of the resolution and differentiation between isotopes.

Results
|
Transmission of C12+ and C14+ ions as a function of applied voltages and frequency was in close agreement with theory. Comments in the file QuadSpect.OIN review the calculations.
