Description Fields in and near an iron sphere with uniform magnetic permeability immersed in a uniform magnetic field of magnitude 1.0 mT. The example illustrates two techniques:
  • Creating a uniform magnetic field by specifying a fixed value of stream function (rAThet) on the outer radial boundary.
  • Setting up a calculation that automatically finds all solutions and values to create a plot of Bz(0,0) as function of MuR.
Results The calculation was first performed with MuR = 1.0 and an arbitrary value of boundary stream function to determine a normalization factor to achieve a field of 1.0 mT. The resulting value of boundary stream function was used in subsequent calculations. The graph of Bz(0,0) versus MuR is included in the download file and shown below. A calculation was also performed to find the fields around the sphere in a high-frequency RF magnetic field. In this case, MuR was set to a value much less than unity so that the sphere acted as an ideal field excluder.
Comments The geometry was based on a Comsol example for comparison.
